he band The Vox Illuminati made a rare NYC appearance at The House of Yes in East Williamsburg on Friday. The event “Steal This Party Thunder Gumbo III,” included bands and DJs including this blogger’s personal fave DJ Joro Boro. Amidst the bands, a dance competition between two sexy women and later a competition between two rambunctious fiddlers peppered the night.
MCs the good Doctors Dolomite and Adventure were–pardon the French–just f*#king crazy! But it was The Vox Illuminati who stole the show. Their lead on vocal and guitar, the sex glammy VOX, who bears a physical resemblance to Iggy Pop (can’t hurt any band!), along with a drummer, bass and also on vocals a pixie-cute girl in a silver lame bikini, truly rocked the stage.
What happens when art and science collide? In “The Visual Collider,” a modern interpretation of an age-old question, artists Nina Czegledy and Marcus Neustetter are hoping for a Big Bang.
The Hungro-Canadian and South African artists, respectively, discussed their ongoing collaborative project during a lecture and reception at exhibition space Alma On Dobbin in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, last Thursday, January 7. Based on the Large Hadron Collider (the astronomically complex and expensive scientific mega-experiment that is attempting to recreate the conditions of the first moments of our Universe’s existence by smashing atomic particles together at incredibly fast speeds), “The Visual Collider” is the pair’s attempt to reconcile, artistically, the moment when the confluence of matter, or in this case photographic light, cease to be disparate identities and instead become one object.
MulchFest is a citywide event where New Yorkers can recycle their Christmas trees by converting them into woodchips. This year, Parks & Recreation has designated 81 park sites to accept trees throughout the five boroughs on Saturday, January 9, and Sunday, January 10, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.. In our neighborhood, the location is McCarren Park @ Lorimer St & Driggs Ave — Get your trees mulched! [nyc.gov]
