Never Mind the Season, a Great Deal: Amarcord Warehouse Sale

March 20, 2010 By Anne Szustek Leave a Comment

Williamsburg and Amarcord 1st day of spring 2010 007

I am reminded of a certain men’s chain clothier with a name that’s a spinoff of the word “warehouse,” oft found throughout suburban America. Its commercial campaign ends in the tagline “I guarantee it.”

But the Williamsburg, inner-city counterpart, this weekend is Vintage shop Amarcord (Warehouse Sale), offering bargains upon bargains.

With a showroom located on Bedford Avenue, they are unveiling discount goodness at their warehouse location on Wythe Ave between N 3rd and N 4th streets (for all you online map fiends out there, that’s at 242 Wythe). Dresses, trousers and blouses are priced at $5, $10 or $20 according to their color ticket; plus there are a few coats among the racks priced slightly higher because, well, they’re coats and usually cost more than inside clothes. But if $30 for a vintage leather calf-length trench isn’t enough to get you out moving, nothing will. Fair enough, 70 degree F temps (20 C for all of you who insist on being all practical and metric) don’t scream “buy winter coats!”

You know, it could snow next week. This is the 41st parallel, despite my bikini-clad sunbathing neighbor thinks, trying to tan on the vernal equinox.

I digress. The pieces I singled out for today’s post are by and large more vernal than equinox, although I suppose you could wear them to a trendy health club if you insisted. More pertinently, these pieces from fashion eras past reflect trends I’ve seen and covered in Williamsburg the past few months.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: $3 shoes and free champagne. So, will sifting through Amarcord’s stuff be worth your while this weekend?

I guarantee it. (winks and points at camera)
