An Evening of Dinner & Lectures about NYC’s Food!
The City Reliquary Museum and Civic Organization, in partnership with a host of Brooklyn’s finest purveyors of food, is putting on an event that is NOT to be missed. The First Ever “Meals and Spiels, An Evening of Dinner & Lectures about NYC’s Food!” will focus on the incredible food shops, breweries, bakeries, and kitchens of North Brooklyn. What’s more, each dish and beverage in the meal will come paired with a lecture about the food on your fork and beverage in your glass. All proceeds will go towards the City Reliquary’s operational funds, to keep us open to the community at large. Guests will be able to take home Goody Bag stuffed with City Reliquary souvenirs, Not for Tourists Brooklyn guidebooks, and more.
The meal will take place at the Brooklyn Kitchen, 100 Frost Street, and the menu will consist of:
BEVERAGES: Brooklyn Brewery’s Special Selection of Paired Beers while Matt Levy of the Levys’ Unique New York! explains the importance of Bushwick’s Breweries in the 19th century
Tap Water featuring Manhattan Borough Historian Michael Miscione explaining the story of the Croton Aqueduct and NY’s continual thirst for fresh drinking water
APPETIZERS: Hot Dogs from The Meat Hook while Jeff Tancil talks about the history of the Hot Dog, and dumplings from M Shanghai while Harley Spiller converses about Chinese Food and its history in NYC, and smoked fish from Acme Fish Company.
MAIN COURSE: Cuts of Man-Steak from The Meat Hook with Paul Lukas discussing the History of the All-You-Can-Eat Beefsteak in NYC lore,
shucked oysters, fish from the Roebling Tea Room while Tara DePorte of the Lower East Side Ecology Center talks about Health and Fishing in the Estuary that is the East River. All Sides will be crafted by Saltie.
DESSERT: Sugar Sweet Treats from Saltie’s baking geniuses while we learn about the sugar industry in Brooklyn; Coffee courtesy of Oslo with a presentation by Liz Clayton’s about the history of the roasted bitter bean in NYC.
All funds raised at the benefit will go to the City Reliquary’s operating costs. Tickets are $150, and are available in advance at www.cityreliquary.org
