As NYC music aficionados know, the Knitting Factory is not a historical landmark dating back from the Industrial Revolution, but is a Williamsburg music venue featuring alt-rock greats old and new.
This weekend, playing at the Metropolitan Ave locale is the pop-up shop of Williamsburg bar/boutique Kingdom, featuring indie fashion from designers based in and out of the greater North Brooklyn area.
On Wed at New York magazine’s BBQ, held at Good Company in Williamsburg (and catered by Boerum Hill Montreal-style Kosher deli Mile End), I ran into Kingdom owner Bob Bland, the fashion designer behind the likewise regally named line, Brooklyn Royalty. Both she and her store are in a time of transition: she being five months’ pregnant and Kingdom closing down in Aug to prep for autumn/winter stock.
In short, it’s time to celebrate. Through Sunday at the front bar at Knitting Factory from 12-6 pm, take in 25% off on Kingdom’s spring and summer stock and get refreshed with Knitting Factory drink specials. The sale got underway Thursday with the music and art-laden kickoff of the LOVE & afFUNCTION exhibit featuring works made from recycled goods. The art show runs through Aug 12th; the live creative action continues this weekend with live screen printing from 4-6 pm.
Take in the art on the wall, walk away with art on you. It’s like having your own gallery in Kings. Regal.
