Fashion’s Night Out: Williamsburg-Greenpoint

September 10, 2010 By Anne Szustek Leave a Comment

Fashion’s Night Out, version 2010: while last year it was the Stiletto Stimulus, this year is…tautologous? It is a night out…of fashion—and free merriment, libations and a chance to support neighborhood businesses.

What a night out of fashion it will be in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. From the northern most tip of the borough of Brooklyn to the elevated rumble of the J and Z trains, the area’s shops and music venues will be hopping with events.

This evening at Dalaga, sip free champagne and meet some of the many designers whose work is featured in the store. Get a free limited-edition Dalaga bag with any purchase. Across the street, head to accessories mecca Hayden-Harnett to meet with the designers, take in DJ sets from Newtown Radio’s Vanessa Bley and style editor Rachel Felder and enter to win a $250 store gift certificate, their Ibiza convertible flight tote, or a Hayden-Harnett scarf. Free gifts with every purchase. After 10 pm until 2 am, the Franklin Ave FNO fete heads to Veronica People’s Club (105 Franklin) for late-night libations.

A matter of blocks south, online vintage clothing marketplace Market Publique is opening up its studio (177 N. 10th St, between Bedford and Driggs) for a pop-up shop featuring selections from a bevy of sellers operating from the site, topped off with cupcakes, champagne and Pabst Blue Ribbon, the unofficial champagne of Williamsburg. Feeling fashionable and competitive all at once? Submit a photo of your FNO look to Williamsburg-based fashion social media site Fashism to vie for a $100 gift certificate.

All-too-convenient to that transit hub known as the Lorimer/Metropolitan-Grand L/G stop, swing by Williamsburg bar-slash-boutique Kingdom’s pop-up shop at music venue Knitting Factory (Metropolitan Ave at Havemeyer). Take in cocktails, the latest collections from more than 10 indie Brooklyn designers and at 10 pm, an audio-visual spectacle from Brooklyn band Follower.

A couple blocks south, vintage store Fille de Joie (197 Grand St) is getting into the FNO mood with chocolate, champagne and of course, its take on the fashions of yesteryear.

Down by the J and Z trains, head to the New York Ci-Tee Party at Brooklyn Party Hall (352 Broadway, at Keap). The festivities get started at 7 pm, with the first 100 attendees getting a free t-shirt. Seven “art collective/designers/fashion labels,” as Brooklyn365.com calls them, will be screen-printing their designs onto tees on site, whilst Milkcrate’s Aaron Lacrate spins hip hop.

Alternatively, you could watch CBS’ coverage of FNO events in Manhattan, but living is better done live.
