Small Town of Williamsburg Gets New Eye Doctor
There’s something about the new doctors who are setting up offices in Williamsburg; they seem to be especially in touch with the original ideals of their professions. Dentists, podiatrists, allergists, chiropractors, and more are offering a Mayberry RFD kind of experience. Williamsburg, in its own way, is a small town, and one can almost always look forward to a really nice patient-doctor interaction.
Opthalmologist Jessica Fleishman is probably the most recent doctor to hang her shingle in the neighborhood. In May, she opened the Center for Sight of New York, a full service eye care center on Hope Street, in a new building between Havemeyer and Roebling streets. The spacious office, about 1,000 square feet, includes a large room that will eventually become a certified surgical facility.
There are also plenty of office spaces in which to grow a team of health practitioners. Fleishman is ready to put all of her qualifications into practice, but to start will just perform “clean surgeries,” such as Lasik corrective eye surgery. Glaucoma operations and cataract removal will come later.
A petite and vibrant woman in her early 50s, Fleishman has been in practice for over 15 years. As she embarks on the Center for Sight, she leaves a private practice and a job at a major Lasik center, both in Upstate New York. Her personal surgery experience includes over 35,000 Lasik procedures.
Originally from Peru, Fleishman came to the States to study, attending University of Texas of Southwestern Medical School of Dallas. She also has a degree in pediatrics from the University of Colorado, Children’s Hopsital, and Albany Medical Center, Opthalmology.
The types of eye-related medical issues she anticipates seeing in North Brooklyn include diseases related to lifestyle, issues connected to diabetes, and aging. She expects a broad mix of patients. Her native tongue is Spanish.
Fleishman says she loves eye surgery because “it’s precise, it’s elegant.” And taking into account practical considerations, it suits her small frame. “I didn’t want to have to put my whole body weight into finding a blood vessel in a person three times my size,” she says.
Fleishman is also licensed to perform Botox treatment for cosmetic purposes.
She accepts all major insurance and offers a sliding fee scale to those who do not have coverage.
