This October Weekend: Pumpkin Patches and Farmers Markets

And there is no better way to celebrate the turning of the season than by partaking of the bounty at our neighborhood farmers’ markets. Check out the Saturday pumpkin patch for the kids, a whole page of recipes for in-season kale, and a beautiful apple and pear pie.

6th Annual Pumpkin Patch on the Lawn at McCarren Park
It’s the Great Pumpkin Patch, Charlie Brown: bring the kids to the lawn at McCarren Park and let them pick a pumpkin from the patch, decorate it, and bring it home. There will be arts + crafts, face painting, and temporary tattoos, live music, and daffodil plantings. $10, Saturday, October 12, 11 am – 3 pm

Here’s a fabulous idea for squash lasagne from our neighbor meauxcrow:
“I roasted the butternut squash and pureed it with blueberry honey, basil and parsley to make a base for lasagna.”
