Thursday Night Picks: The Allah-Las, Old Rugged Sauce, Morgan O’Kane, NO TOKENS

March 27, 2014 By WG News + Arts Leave a Comment

“The Allah-Las sound like the Old, Weird Los Angeles: Strains of true surfing music, American harmonies, Sunset Strip backbeat, desert ramble filtered through Goldstar Sessioneers…like bungalows in canyons; hidden deco stairsteps peeking from leafy hillsides; kustom kars and dovetails and chicks in OP shorts with long, long hair, like a Dennis Hopper photo come to life. You look at their well worn Fender guitars, their real surfer tans, their dusty suede boots – and you see it’s a sound natural to them. This is ’60s pop psych / surf rock at it’s best.” – by Nick Waterhouse for Rough Trade // Rough Trade NYC, 64 North 9th St. Williamsburg.

Reminder—GWAPP Orientation Meeting Tonight, Volunteers Needed

March 26, 2014 By WG News + Arts Leave a Comment

gwapp logoPlease join us March 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the BIP Parks Building Community Room (North 9th St. / Kent Ave) for an orientation about GWAPP.

Our nominating committee is eager to meet anyone who is interested in joining this dynamic and active community organization. We’re looking for neighbors who are committed to the issues of parks, open space and the environment in Greenpoint and Williamsburg. There are a number of ways to get involved with GWAPP on many different commitment levels.

GWAPP won a small grant from the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund, and we’re looking for people to help us implement our proposal. We also need volunteers to help maintain our website and social media accounts, attend and report on local meetings, and write grants and fundraise.
