The Meatball Slapdown Returns! 5th Annual Fundraiser at Brooklyn Brewery Thursday
It takes big balls to lay it all on the line for “best meatball in NYC” bragging rights. This year, Williamsburg native Gennaro Virtuoso of Lorimer Market will square off against Greenpoint newcomer River Styx, while return contestants Mile End and Brooklyn Star are more determined than ever to take home the trophy.
We’ll also try meatballs from first-time competitors Martha, Saltie, Briskettown, and a collaborative entry from the brains behind Brooklyn Brewery and Jackson & Humboldt. Come vote on your favorite balls, which will be served with SheWolf bakery bread, Brooklyn Brewery beer, and Liddabit Sweets. DJ Aperitif, AKA Joe Garden of The Onion, will spin sweet soul music all night long.

More Projects to Choose / Playgrounds and Schools for Greenpoint – Williamsburg PB Vote
In New York, Participatory Budgeting (or PB) is a relatively new program where district residents participate directly in the city budgeting process, deciding how to spend $1,000,000 in city funds. These funds can go towards capital projects in our parks, our schools—or wherever else the residents of our district decide.
Yesterday we profiled the BOOKlyn SHUTTLE mobile library project, and gave an overview of the PB voting process, which you can read about here.
Meerkat Media Collective provides us with “A quick introduction to an inspiring form of participatory democracy taking root across America” in this super enjoyable video.
