The MTA has announced that starting today there will be more service on the G line! It’s the weekday they’re talking about, not the weekend, but hey, it’s a start.
What does it mean to you? Trains will operate every 8 minutes instead of every 10 minutes between the hours of 3pm and 9pm, Monday – Friday. That works out to a 25% increase in frequency during rush hour, and into the early evening.
The upgrades were announced Sunday and praised by state Sen. Daniel Squadron, who requested the changes along with state Sen. Martin Dilan and the Riders Alliance.
“Today the G rarely means the beginning of a great ride,” Squadron said in a statement. “These improvements will help commutes on this important line — and hopefully make lives a little easier for the riders who depend on it.”
It’s not just a matter of more trains. G riders can expect public announcement systems at all 12 G train stations, and trains that stop in the same place on platforms. Yes, that’s what the statement by transportation advocacy group Riders Alliance promised: the train will stop at the same clearly marked place on the platform, every single time.
