Standard Toykraft hosts Tom Stathes for some rare and unusual cartoons featuring bugs, creatures, and things with more arms and legs than you could shake a stick at.
During the summer, we become more aware of our insect friends. However, through cartoon visions of the past, we’ll see that spiders, ants, butterflies, caterpillars and their creepy crawly friends have enough of their own trials and tribulations to deal with before us humans start interfering. Leave the bug spray at home, too…it’s bad for archival films!
Tom Stathes is a “Cartoon Cryptozoologist” with a rare film print collection comprised of over 1,000 shorts. Tom’s long term goal has been to acquire and preserve as many early animated films as possible and reintroduce them to the public.
Don’t miss the TREASURE CHEST Summer Circus Cabaret at Big Sky Works. Flying Fish, acrobatic pirates, juggling octopi, bathing beauties, bearded mermaids, swinging sea urchins, singing phantom ships and more. Hosted by Jennifer Miller
Two great events tonight at Videology – first up, Northside Film Festival will be screening their 2 winning films from the Northside DIY Competition, at 7:30pm, followed by “TV on the Fritz” at 10:30pm. You can go for one or the other, both events are free to the public, and there will drink specials offered all night long.
Head over to Socrates Sculpture park to watch the film from the grass along the river at sundown; an idyllic summer evening.
