“Schiele goes to the core. There’s no inhibition, and that’s rare even today. He says it all and yes, his sexual frankness appeals. It was pornography. But very good, exceptionally well done pornography.” – Dr. Alessandra Comini, curator of “Egon Schiele: Portraits,” in an interview with Art in America.
The show, which continues through Jan. 19, will include 125 paintings, drawings and sculptural pieces that follow the development of Schiele’s raw, skittery, often erotic style, which was punk long before punk. Patti Smith once said she was drawn to the singer and guitarist Tom Verlaine because he had “such an Egon Schiele look.” – NY Times
