Folks, it’s time for Cartoon Carnival #30. Animation archivist Tom Stathes has hand-selected, from his personal archives, a dozen rare 16mm cartoons (no digital!) dating back to the 1920s thru the 1940s for your visual entrancement.
This year Halloween falls on a Friday night. We believe the entire weekend should be full of spooky festivities, so we’re holding this screening of funny, rare, bizarre and creepy cartoon rarities on Saturday Nov. 1st. See how our animated comrades of decades past duked it out with ghosts, ghouls, and other scary entities a lifetime ago.
Freaky bonus: We’ll be showing one of the rare 1930s Race Night Comedies. These short live-action films feature silent-era comedians racing with numbers on their backs. Theaters gave each customer a ticket, only one of which matched the winning racer’s number in the film. Your very own Race Night Comedy ticket is automatically included with your show ticket purchase–and each attendee has a chance to win a fun cartoony prize. Many thanks to contributor Nelson Hughes who recently began reintroducing these films to the public.
Tom Stathes is a “Cartoon Cryptozoologist” with a rare film print collection comprised of over 1,000 shorts. Tom’s long term goal has been to acquire and preserve as many early animated films as possible and reintroduce them to the public.
