Inspired by sentimental photojournalism and theater of the absurd existentialism, this selection from A Wandering Camera documents “images of human activity” in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. The photographer is Greenpoint artist Nathan H. Ellis, who is also the lead practitioner of Hours By Appointment, a private cognitive therapy practice helping local residents. This exhibit foreshadows future work that will include a crossover between his work in psychology and photojournalism.
After the opening reception, guests are invited to join in an after party at the back room of The Bedford, 110 Bedford Ave at No. 11th, for SOUL NITE.
Opening Reception: free, with RSVP, Thursday, September 4th 6pm – 8pm at The Yard, 33 Nassau Avenue, Williamsburg, 2nd floor (above Spritzenhaus)
Air-conditioning, beer, and poster art – it’s a go for ArtCrank NYC 2014 as a WG Pick. After a pair of packed-to-the-rafters SoHo openings the past two years, ArtCrank — an international pop-up show of bicycle-inspired posters — is headed across the East River to Brooklyn Brewery for what’s shaping up to be its biggest NYC show yet. The one-night event will feature limited edition work by 30 local artists on Thursday, September 4 from 5pm – 10pm. Signed and numbered copies of all posters are available for $50 each, and admission is free.
