Tonight, at Brooklyn Oenology, fresh local literature meets wine and cocktail pairings in a revamp of the classic reading series. Come to hear the latest works-in-progress from the city’s rising generation of writers, while savoring drinks inspired by the words you’re hearing. With an emphasis on raw unpublished work, this evening promises to yield bold new fruit, no matter what your poison.

Standard Toykraft hosts Tom Stathes for some rare and unusual cartoons featuring bugs, creatures, and things with more arms and legs than you could shake a stick at.

During the summer, we become more aware of our insect friends. However, through cartoon visions of the past, we’ll see that spiders, ants, butterflies, caterpillars and their creepy crawly friends have enough of their own trials and tribulations to deal with before us humans start interfering. Leave the bug spray at home, too…it’s bad for archival films!

Tom Stathes is a “Cartoon Cryptozoologist” with a rare film print collection comprised of over 1,000 shorts. Tom’s long term goal has been to acquire and preserve as many early animated films as possible and reintroduce them to the public.
