Nitehawk Cinema Launches Free Live Music-Focused Outdoor Screenings

nighthawk cinema outdoorsNitehawk Cinema brings its signature programming and inspired menus to the great outdoors with its FREE screening series in Havemeyer Park. The live music-focused screenings feature the sweet singing prostitutes in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas on August 20 with Brooklyn band Doll Parts, a Chicago white party featuring a performance by Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra on September 10, and the gilded Bond film Goldfinger on September 17 with New York City septet Morricone Youth.

Flux Fest Challenges Ten Teams of Filmmakers to Produce Short Films About the Passage and Continuity of Time in Juried Film Fest Sunday, July 28th from 6pm to Midnight at Sandbox Studios Brooklyn, 154 Morgan Ave.

Mythic Bridge, a non-profit organization committed to providing filmmaking education to underserved youth, presents Flux Fest 2013, a juried film festival in Bushwick spotlighting the work of up-and-coming NYC filmmakers. Ten teams were challenged to create short films exploring the passage and continuity of time. The shorts will then be screened for guests and judged by a panel of experts from the filmmaking community.

When Harvey Elgart first started looking around the Williamsburg-Greenpoint area for places to open a movie theater, he saw a wide open opportunity in a neighborhood devoid of commercial movie options. “It was under-screened,” recalls Elgart, who at the time already operated the Cobble Hill and Kew Gardens Cinemas. “Few theaters could have found the proper zoning rights and price.”
