Hip Hop Icon BIG DADDY KANE to Headline Restoration Rocks!

IN BED-STUY: DJ QuestLove, Chrisette Michele, Maya Azucena to perform & Leon to host The 7th annual Restoration Rocks! music festival in Bed-Stuy this Saturday, October 12 — 10am – 5pm.

The festival is free and open to the community, presented by the Center for Arts & Culture (CAC) at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (BSRC) and is a part of the Bed-Stuy Alive! week-long event.

Cayucas Jams The Knitting Factory

Cayucas brought California vibes and sun-pop to Brooklyn, and to a jam-packed Knitting Factory, on August 29.  I sat down before the show with lead singer Zach Yudin and his bandmates Ben Yudin, Casey Wojtalewicz, and Russell Henon, to talk about surfing, music, and Michael Jordan.

V: Zach, before Cayucas you had a band called Oregon Bike Trails. What started Cayucas, how was the band “born”?
Zach: Well, the guy who runs the label made me come up with a different band name to suit the sound a little better. And we had a song called Cayucos, so he threw out the idea of making that song title the band name. It just makes more sense. Oregon Bike Trails was just a name that I came up with before there was even a song. So once there was actually an album created, Cayucas made more sense.

Alongside a massage table, crafts and t-shirt vendors, as well as immersive dance troupes, including Sans Limites Dance, there was the music…  excellent music coming from independent bands and singers, all part of a music scene that is cresting with powerful energy and talent in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Someday I expect to say about a few of these bands: “I saw them back when….”
