Tom Stathes Rare Cartoon Carnival 27: Bugs & Spiders at Standard Toykraft

July 19, 2014 By WG News + Arts Leave a Comment

standard toykraft cartoon carnival posterStandard Toykraft hosts Tom Stathes for some rare and unusual cartoons featuring bugs, creatures, and things with more arms and legs than you could shake a stick at.

During the summer, we become more aware of our insect friends. However, through cartoon visions of the past, we’ll see that spiders, ants, butterflies, caterpillars and their creepy crawly friends have enough of their own trials and tribulations to deal with before us humans start interfering. Leave the bug spray at home, too…it’s bad for archival films!

Tom Stathes is a “Cartoon Cryptozoologist” with a rare film print collection comprised of over 1,000 shorts. Tom’s long term goal has been to acquire and preserve as many early animated films as possible and reintroduce them to the public.

outdoor screening at socrates deadly ponies gangHead over to Socrates Sculpture park to watch the film from the grass along the river at sundown; an idyllic summer evening.

The Deadly Ponies Gang (This screening will be the film’s international premiere) Clint and Dwayne are two of a kind – the kind that start a pimped-out pony gang (ponies replete with glitter, oversized sunglasses, and bling) on the edges of rural New Zealand. Riding through town, the duo deals some drugs, tries to snuggle up to some ladies, and attempts a fundraiser for new teeth while learning the lengths people will go for their mates. Directed by Zoe McIntosh.
